Grey Main School is operated on a 'Syndicate' basis whereby classes of similar year levels are grouped together. This facilitates co-operative planning of programmes based on the NZ Curriculum (which sets achievement levels based on year levels, 1-8 in primary schools.) The school has 16 classrooms, 10 of which are in a two storey building (with the library), and the remaining 6 are 2 class-room units on the other side of the school. All classrooms have carpet, wet area, adequate storage, good heat and lighting, white-boards, and ample display space for children's work. Each classroom has at least 2 computers which are connected to the school network. All rooms have their own art supplies and these are renewed as needs arise during the year.
